Helen Shamis

Helen Nasef Shamis was born on November 17, 1917 in Santa Monica, California, and passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017 in Monroe, Louisiana.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Kammell Joseph Shamis, her parents Shapley and Lena Nasef, siblings and her son-in-law, Charles Ray Karam. She is survived by her daughters, Camille Shamis Karam and Priscilla Shamis Mott (Marshal Conrad); grandchildren, Maria Karam Kelley (Charles), Charles Karam (Jennifer), Jenny Lee Wier (Jeff), Katherine Karam and by nine great-grandchildren.
Helen touched many lives during her lifetime.  She was a woman of great beauty and style, filled with kindness and love and an inspiration to many.  She was well-respected in the business community for her success in the world of fashion and owned Shamis' Ltd. a women's apparel store for over 60 years.  Her unconditional love and unwavering commitment and generosity to her family was evident throughout her long life.  Her beautiful spirit and memory will live forever in our hearts.
The family wishes to thank the hospice Compassus team who were so very attentive and helpful; and most especially, the caretakers both in Monroe and New Orleans who treated her with much love and compassion during the last several years of her life.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Southern Memorial Park Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
