Helen Evelyn Johnson Parker went to be home with her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2021.
She was born May 15, 1927, in Goodway, Alabama, to Lee and Mary Johnson.
When she was eight years old, they moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where she made her home.
Evelyn married James Coy Parker and had five children. She was very active in church and attended Central Assembly of God, where she taught the boys' Sunday school class, and later Northside Assembly of God, where she continued to teach Sunday school and the ladies group for over 50 years.
She quilted, made hand pies, and fried the first piece of chicken to start the Northside building fund. She was heartbroken when she had to retire because of her health at almost 80. She was considered a fabulous teacher with a deep knowledge of the word of God. Northside presented her with a plaque that still hangs in the Sunday school building honoring her many years of service.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, James Coy Parker; daughter, Mary Ellen Griffin; son, Gordon Parker; son-in-law, Ray Boyette; grandson, Greg Griffin; parents, Lee and Mary Johnson; sisters, Earline Rogers, Muriel Johnson, Bobbie King, and Maragete Walker; and brothers, Otis Johnson, Buddy Johnson, and Thomas Glen Johnson.
She leaves behind her son, Gary and Linda Parker; daughter, Hazel and Roland Lewis; baby daughter, Denise Boyette and John Dodd; sisters, Audi Broadus, Donell Taylor, Brenda Valentine, and Dianne Turner; brother, Ronnie Johnson; six grandchildren she helped raise- Joy, Jamey, Amy, Jerrid, Kelly, and Beth-along with 11 other grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank Saad Hospice, as well as Monique and Anna for helping to care for Evelyn in her final days. She was loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed, but she has finally gone home to the place she longed for.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 2:00pm at the Northside Assembly of God on Lemoyne Blvd in St. Martin, with a visitation from 1:00pm until the service. Interment will follow at White Plains Cemetery in North Biloxi.
