Harry D. LeRoy was born August 9, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, and left this life on December 20, 2017, at the age of 90.
Harry was preceded in death by his youngest son, Daniel LeRoy; his parents, Daniel and Agnes LeRoy; and his sister, Caryl LeRoy.
Harry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dixie C. LeRoy; his daughter, Nancy (Tom) Steele of Moken, IL; his son, Stephen (Kay) LeRoy of Shreveport, LA; and his grandchildren, Rachel Steele, Emily (Brian) Duracka of Illinois, Kathryn (Brad) Hoffman and Daniel LeRoy of Louisiana. Harry was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Allison and Brian Duracka and Elizabeth and Brock Hoffman.
Harry served his country in the Navy and was awarded the Victory Medal. After his service and marrying his sweetheart, he began his lifelong career with the Illinois Central Railroad. Upon retiring, Harry and Dixie built a home in Biloxi, MS until moving to The Gardens Retirement Center.
Harry was an avid model train enthusiast. He excelled at building model train layouts and restorations of the trains. He built wood crafts with the intricate detail of his civil engineering degree. Harry was well loved, always quick with a smile, a joke or a song even when in poor health. The family is grateful to all those that spent time with him, drove him on the beach road or took him for lunch or ice cream. The family is thankful to all the companies involved who provided the wonderful care and attention to Harry during his declining health.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. at the corner of Washington Ave., West Jackson County. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. An online guest book may be signed and memories shared at www.riemannfamily.com
