Harry William Burchard, 93, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017, at The Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland, MS.
Harry was born on November 19, 1923, in Decatur, IL. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard (1942~1946) during World War II. He worked over 40 years as a Civil Service employee with the Army and Air Force in the field of telecommunication. He also coached, umpired and refereed youth baseball and basketball for over 20 years in Gulfport, MS. To all of those that he coached, he could tell stories about each player if it were Bayou View Pee Wee basketball, little league, pony league or dixie senior. Harry recalled the stories as if it were yesterday, but he had a hard time remembering what he had for breakfast. He loved coaching his players.
After retirement, he spent time traveling with his wife, Betty, and playing golf anytime, anywhere he could.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Y. Burchard.
He is survived by his sons, Danny Burchard and his wife, Gwynn of Brandon, MS. and Scott Burchard and his wife, Amy of Reno, NV; and a granddaughter, Kendall Burchard, of Charlottesville, VA at Virginia Law School.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Gulfport, MS.
