Hannah Phillips, age 91, of Gulfport, MS, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2015.
Hannah retired from Harrison County Head Start. Hannah had a very compassionate, generous, and caring heart.
She spent her life as a volunteer social worker to assist the needy, from supplying food to shut -ins to coordinating a home rebuilding for a burned out family, and providing transportation, eye glasses, dental and other medical needs. She and her husband, John, enjoyed gathering stuffed animals for police officers to give to children on domestic calls. It brought her satisfaction to help those who couldn't help themselves. She served on the board of directors of Feed My Sheep and belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post in Gulfport.
Hannah was preceded in death by her first husband, Levan Joseph Ladner, and a daughter, Brenda Ladner Cheshire.
She is survived by her 94 year old husband, John Maples Phillips, a WWII VET; sons Dickie Joe Ladner and Earnest Ladner; daughters Mary Jean Knight, Elaine Elkins, Nancy McGill, and, Bridget Hutchinson; and 61 grandchildren .
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Feed My Sheep or The Rescue Mission, both in Gulfport.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 6:00 PM at Persimmon Hill Baptist Church, Saucier, with a visitation for family and friends from 5:00 PM until the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
