Gladys Brennan

February 28, 1959 — February 28, 2017

It is with deep sadness the family of Gladys Lillian Scott Brennan shares the news of the passing of their matriarch, who passed February 28, 2017. Born March 30, 1930, she was preceded in death by both parents, Mayor Delbert and Carrie Scott. She was preceded in death by her son, born February 28, 1959, Mark Edward Brenan; and her husband, Lt. Col. Edward Martin Brennan, Ed.D. Gladys is also preceded in death (within eight days) by her sister, Beatrice Minnie Scott Estabrook; her brother -in- law, Bion Roosevelt Estabrook of Derry, NH.
She is survived by her children, E. Scott (Saadiah) Brennan, Mary B. Waltman, and Hugh E. Brennan, all of Saucier MS, and Beth B. (Phillip) Haskins of Vicksburg, MS; five grandchildren, Mary Amanda Haskins, Ph.D., of Columbia, MO, Josh Haskins, of Waco, TX, Tessa Brennan (Patrick) Kirkland, of Dallas, TX, Meranda Brennan, of Saucier, MS, and Bailey B. Waltman, of Saucier, MS; her sister-in-law, Mary Theresa (Dick) Hill, of Sherburne, NY; many nieces, nephews, and loving family.
Born at her home in Shiloh, IL, Gladys was a graduate of O'Fallon Township High School and later worked as a stenographer for United Shoe Machinery in East St. Louis, IL. At a high school dance, she met an airman in the US Army Air Corps training at nearby Scott Airforce Base with whom she would later share the sacrament of marriage for over 65 years. Living overseas with her husband, they later settled in Gulfport, MS where they raised 5 children. She was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church for over 50 years and was confirmed in the faith and first received the Body of Christ by Fr. Patrick McDermott, who would later minister her final Holy Communion.
During their later years, Gladys and Edward often shared road trips across the country. The two always enjoyed watching nature, especially birds and squirrels and they shared many walks outside together. She took great pride in her grandchildren and poured her heart into their learning kindness, empathy and prayers. She taught her children and grandchildren how to live God's love. Gladys was especially patient including her children and grandchild in preparing meals, and the family treasures memories of those special times spent together at the dinner table. A woman of faith and mercy, Gladys set a standard of unending love.
The family of Gladys Brennan would like to thank the staff of Seashore Highland Memorial Care Unit for their exceptional care and attention. Additionally, Stephanie and Tammy of Notre Dame Hospice provided exceptional and professional support to both Gladys and her family that will always be remembered.
