Gina Woods

December 13, 1960 — December 2, 2022

Vancleave

Gina Guerra Woods, age 61, passed on Friday, December 2, 2022 at her residence in Vancleave, Mississippi.  Gina was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and a 1978 graduate of Grace King High School, Metairie, LA.  She was a resident of Vancleave since 1992 and was a member of Mosaic Church in Ocean Springs.

Gina Woods dedicated her life to serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She modeled Christ’s love through self-less acts of service to her family and the community.  Gina loved her family and friends intensely.  She was a fierce advocate for her children, husband, extended family and friends, always presenting Godly principles and council.  Gina faithfully sought to help people find their way into relationship with God through Christ with the full knowledge that as God did his work in them, they would find their own path to joy, comfort and fulfillment.

In Jackson County schools, Gina mentored students through the United Way’s “Too Good for Drugs/Teen Connection” program.  Gina was also very proud to be part of the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts by Christians Organized for the Relief Effort (CORE) which brought over 8,000 volunteers to assist Mississippi Gulf Coast residents.  At Singing River Health System, she worked with Auxiliary Volunteers and Candy Stripers to care for families of patients.  Gina also served as mentor to many women through the local MOPS International Program and as a lay counselor to women and married couples at Mosaic Church.  As a long-time board member and past President of the Board for Community Care Network, Gina worked with their care teams to provide services to disadvantaged women and children in Jackson County, MS.

Gina was preceded in death by her brother, John Mark Guerra.

Survivors include her husband, Phillip Bryan Woods (married December 28, 1979) of Vancleave; her sons, Micah Joseph Woods & wife, Stephanie Woods, Daniel Jordan Woods & wife, Nancy Bermudez Woods, Christopher David Woods & wife, Christine Lemon Woods, and Andrew Bryan Woods & wife, Autumn Bass Woods; her four grandchildren, Hallie Claire Woods, Bradford Alexander Woods, Wilder Bryan Woods and Asa Victor Woods; her mother, Betty Wilson Guerra; her father, Jesse Alanis Guerra; her sister, Shasme Guerra Guarisco and husband, Rock Guarisco; and her nieces and nephew, Sicily Guarisco, Capri Guarisco and Pietro Guarisco.
