Gilbert J Weber, our strong, loving, caring friend, Dad and grandfather, went to Heaven on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the age of 92 years. Gilbert was born to Lula June and Jacob Gabriel Weber on February 5, 1926 in Mt. Vernon, Missouri on a dairy farm. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Depke Weber, of 69 plus years. Their children are James Mark Weber of Marietta, Ga, Robert Steven Weber (Carye) of Louisville, Ky and Susan Weber Stewart (Joe Gregory) of Gulfport. His grandchildren are Clark Emily Weber, Gabriel Garrett Weber, Jacob Walter Stewart, Ellis Fowler Stewart, Claire Crenshaw Stewart, and Annalee Weber Stewart.
Gil joined the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1946 as a radio gunner. After World War II he was graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in in Dairy Manufacturing and began his career at Borden's. Following a move to Florida he introduced the first half gallon plastic bottle to Florida which later became the leading plastic soft drink bottle. Realizing the future of plastic bottling, he then went to work for Sewell Plastics in Jackson, MS and then in Arlington, TX.
In 1976, he joined the Arlington Rotary and was chairman of their successful American flag program. He served many Rotary positions including president and is a John Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International. He joined the Gulfport-Orange Grove Rotary Club when he and his wife, Joyce, moved to Gulfport from Arlington and faithfully attended the meetings and charitable events.
Gilbert's hobbies included traveling, gardening, golf, sailing and building beautiful pieces of cherry wood furniture that his children and grandchildren cherish.
Gilbert was a proud member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Challengers Sunday school class.
Please join the Weber family for a funeral service on Friday, April 13, at 2:00 PM, with visitation at 1:00 PM until the service at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, MS. Burial will follow at a later date in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church at 5007 Lawson Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39507 or to The Rotary Club of Gulfport-Orange Grove, P.O. Box 2484, Gulfport, Mississippi 39505 who will forward it to Rotary International's Rotary Foundation.
