Gertrude Johnson Toomey

Gertrude Ann Toomey, age 79, passed away on November 24, 2013 in Diamondhead. She was born on September 2, 1934 and was a resident of Waveland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John E. Johnson and Dolores Johnson Ladner.
She is survived by two children, Jack Toomey and EJ (Melinda) Toomey, both of Waveland, four grandchildren, Kara and Tara Toomey of Ocean Springs, and Ashley and Lauren Toomey of Waveland, and her brother, Charles (June) Johnson of Diamondhead.
She was the owner/operator of Toomey Shell Service in Waveland for over 40 years. She enjoyed the daily interaction with her long-time customers and looked forward to each day of business.
She attended Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church where she volunteered in the Rectory and taught CCD. She also volunteered at the Hancock County Literacy Program. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.
She was extremely proud of her Applied Associates Degree in Business which she completed much later in life. She loved computer technology and continued taking courses after completing her degree.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Woodland Village, Dr. Irene Koskan, and Dr. Joseph Lee who showed kindness, compassion, and God's love through their care for her.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 11 - 12 noon at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon in the church. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery.
