Geraldine Gilbert Hanes

Geraldine Gilbert Hanes, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 12, 2023. 
 
Geraldine was born in Big Creek, MS. She married James “Jim” Hanes on June 16, 1955. They raised their family in Greenville and made their home in Gulfport beginning in the late 1980s. Geraldine loved her daily interaction with the children through her work at school lunchrooms at both St. John Elementary and Bayou View Elementary.

Geraldine was a true matriarch of her family. Her compassion and love shined brightly as a homemaker and caregiver.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hanes; mother, Lula Mae Gilbert; siblings, Glenda Gilbert, Mary Helen Rogers, Martha Faye Johnson, and Ronnie Dale Gilbert.
 
She is survived by her son, Bobby (Vennie) Hanes of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; her daughter, Kathy Hanes (Rick) Tubertini of Biloxi; brother, Johnny Gilbert of Elyria, Ohio; grandchildren, Amy (Brad Rosenberg) Hanes, Scott Hanes, Ryan (Katie Jo) Hanes, Lauren Tubertini (Micah) Sanders, Taylor Tubertini (Seth) Mattina; great grandchildren, Oakley Hanes, June Hanes, Izzy Hanes-Rosenberg, Landon (Chelsi) Eldridge, Christian Sanders, Rivers Mae Sanders, Finley Sanders, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Denise Reinart of Okeene, Oklahoma.

The family gives special thanks to friends Wayne and Robbie Nix, and Pastor Matt Sachitano of New Hope Baptist Church in Gulfport.
Friends are invited to join the family for visitation and services on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, with the Funeral Service at 12 Noon.  Mrs. Hanes will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.  The online guestbook may be viewed, and memories shared at www.riemannfamily.com
