George Simonich

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved, George Martin Simonich, Jr., who passed away in Biloxi, Mississippi on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the age of 91.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, stepfather and friend.  He is preceded in death by his parents George and Stella Simonich; and the mother of his children, previous wife, Dorothy (Kublbeck) Simonich:

George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Evelyn Meharg Simonich; his children, Matthew Simonich (Lisa), Mary Simonich Burgess (Gerald); Hugh Simonich (Christina); and his grandchildren, Jacob, Jonathan, Samuel, Connor, Alexandra and Ethan.

He was a native of Chicopee Massachusetts, graduated from Chicopee High School, graduated from the Western Massachusetts School of Pharmacy in 1952., he served his country in the US Army and served in the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Army Medical Service. He then owned and operated his own business, Sexton Drugs for many years in Springfield, before accepting a position from the VA in Temple, TX until his retirement. He lived a full life.  He was an avid reader, and a walking book of knowledge.  He could converse on all topics with his favorite subjects being History and Geography.  He loved all sports, playing pool, playing cards, and was an active skier and golfer until his mid 70’s.  After retirement, he and his wife traveled many years worldwide.  He also pursued his love to dance becoming a skilled ballroom dancer.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Throughout his life, no matter how far away from his family he was at times, he was always connected to them, and a part of their lives.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service with Military Honors being presented at The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. in West Jackson County.
