George Thomas Tate, PhD., age 81 and a resident of Pass Christian, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, in Pass Christian.
Dr. Tate was born in Hollywood, Alabama. He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1957. He was Chief Psychologist at the VA in Alexandria, LA until his retirement in 1990. After which, he and his daughter went in private practice together in Gulfport, MS, for two decades. He loved his work and was a well studied man who loved simple things. He was an avid music lover, but most importantly he was a loving father and grandfather. Dr. Tate was known to family and friends to be kind, gentle, and hospitable. He will be missed but his influence will go on.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Haynes Tate, Sr. and Edith Machen Tate; his siblings, Haynes Tate, Jr. and Mary Viola McCrary and his wife, Vivian ""Bibby"" Close Tate.
Dr. Tate is survived by his only child, Vivian Tate Rehor; his son-in-law, Michael Rehor and his grandchildren, Brett Hilbert, Avery Hilbert, and Sara Macayle Rehor.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013, from 5:30pm until 7:00pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2:00pm at Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville, LA.
