George Daniel Jacobs, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in Senatobia, MS.
He was born February 26, 1923 in Unionville, MO, and was married to Iona Clarice Cartwright on October 18, 1947.
Lt. Col. Jacobs was a United States Air Force veteran, who served our country proudly as a pilot during WWII, as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Once retired from the Air Force in September 1964, he went on to earn his Master's degree from Florida State University and was employed by the Tallahassee School District. In 1999, the Jacobs moved to Pontotoc, MS, where he owned and operated the J&J Ranch, selling Santa Gertrudis cattle. The Jacobs later retired and settled in Diamondhead, MS and were members of Diamondhead Community Church. Mr. Jacobs spent much of his time playing golf, one of his lifelong passions. He will now join in Heaven, his loving wife Iona, who precedes him in death after 61 long and happy years of marriage. She died December 5, 2008. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Fred D. Jacobs; his mother, Ruth M. Ralston; a brother, Glen D. Jacobs; his sister, Mary E. Jacobs Hartford; and his nephew, Larry D. Jones.
Mr. Jacobs is survived by his sisters, Mildred F. Jones-Marshall of Las Cruces, NM, Margaret M. Villa of Williamsburg, VA; a brother, William D. ""Bill"" Jacobs (Barbara) of Raleigh, NC; a step-son, John V. Huckaby of Horn Lake, MS; grandchildren, Jason D. Huckaby of Hernando, MS and Sheila Huckaby Hicks of Walls, MS; and great grandchildren, Jared Hicks, Chloe Huckaby, and Isaac Huckaby.
RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Gulfport will be assisting the family with a graveside service, 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at Biloxi National Cemetery. Tributes may be offered to the family at www.riemannfamily.com.
