Mr. George Thomas Dupont, Jr., of Long Beach, passed away at home on December 8, 2017.
George is preceded in death by his parents, George and Geneva Dupont.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 45 years, Dolores Dupont; his sister Georgene (Sonny) Richard of Lowell, MA; and his children, Joshua (Francie) of Madison, WI, and Jessica of Pascagoula.
George was born in Washington, D.C. in 1942. He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Maryland, and in 1977, graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.S. in Computer Technology.
George and Dolores moved to Long Beach in 1976 with the Naval Oceanographic Office. George, a hydrographer with the Commander Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, retired in 1994 after more than 30 years in government service. While at CNMOC, George was honored with the Superior Civilian Service award from The Department of Navy.
George was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach. He was a skilled cake decorator, a long-time leader for the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed working with the community youth. He found joy in teaching ESL and tutoring students in math. George was also a connoisseur of classic movies and enjoyed schooling his children in Trivial Pursuit whenever he could. On most mornings, he could be found at his favorite breakfast spot, the Rusty Pelican in Long Beach.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff and nurses at South Mississippi Fresenius Kidney Center in Gulfport for their compassionate care and assistance for the past 8 years.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, from 2:00-3:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Boulevard, Long Beach, MS. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School in Long Beach. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, is serving the family.
