Gene Mignor

DTC Gene H. Mignor USN, Retired, age 71, passed away on August 22, after a brief battle with cancer of the liver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Laurestine Mignor; sister, Carol Sue Meadows; and infant granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Grimes.
Mr. Mignor resided in Long Beach for 37 years after being transferred with the US Navy to Gulfport in 1977. He retired from the Navy with 20 years serving proudly both in the states and overseas. He subsequently was employed at the Biloxi Veterans Administration Hospital, department of pharmacy. In 2012 he was proud to be a guardian to a WWII veteran on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight.
Mr. Mignor, born and raised in Danese, West Virginia, thoroughly embraced Long Beach. He was active in Boy Scouts and youth sports participating both as a proud parent and a congenial coach. He never lost his love for the hills of West Virginia and its country lore. A country boy at heart, he was always ready with a story usually accompanied by his quick wit.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda; son, Kevin (Terrie) Mignor; daughter, Michelle (Matthew) Grimes and five granddaughters; Chelsey Douglas, Jordan McLeod, Michaela McLeod, Anne Marie Grimes and Mary Elizabeth Grimes.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E. Beach Blvd, Long Beach, MS 39560.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Long Beach with a visitation for family and friends from 10:30 AM until the Mass. Burial with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
