Obituary

Gene Carroll Costendbader, age 88 of Ocean Springs, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Ann Costenbader; his father, Elvin Costenbader and his mother, Pauline Dovell.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Lloyd; his son, Joseph Ryan and his grandchildren, Brian Czarnik and Harley Ryan.

Born and raised in Colonia Beach, Virginia, Gene graduated from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with the Class of 1956. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served his country for 20 years and 3 days before retiring in August 1976.

Gene was devoted to his beloved wife, Linda, and together they shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.

Following his military career, Gene put his skills and hardworking nature to use as a self-employed home maintenance repairman, primarily working as a contractor for Wally Page Realty in Ocean Springs. He later worked for Executive Properties Management, Inc. in Ocean Springs, where he spent several years cleaning and maintaining storage units.

Gene had a lifelong passion for metal detecting and coin collecting. He loved the excitement of searching for hidden treasures, discovering pieces of the past, and learning the history behind each find. Most of all, he enjoyed sharing his discoveries and collection with family and friends. These beloved hobbies brought Gene countless hours of enjoyment, curiosity, and adventure throughout his life.

Gene was a faithful member of the Baptist faith, and his life reflected his dedication to the people and interests he held dear.

While our hears are saddened by his passing, we are grateful for the many years, memories and love we shared with Gene. He will be forever remembered, missed and loved.

Celebration of Gene’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., West Jackson County, beginning with military honors.
