Gaye Ann Stubbs Abraham

March 8, 1941 — April 30, 2023

Brandon

Surrounded by family in her last days, our beloved Gay Ann Stubbs Abraham of Brandon, MS, went to be with her Lord Jesus on April 30, 2023.

Born in Sunflower County, MS, March 8, 1941, Gay Ann spent most of her life in Belzoni, MS. She attended Belzoni High School, where she excelled in the Belzoni High School Band as a majorette and, later, Drum Major. She was selected to the MS Lion’s All State Band as a majorette also. While at Belzoni High School, Gay Ann was loved by her classmates, who selected her as ""Most Beautiful" in the school . Later, Gay Ann became an accomplished dancer while attending dance seminars in New York and taught dancing with her dearly loved Aunt “Mimi” in Belzoni, Holly Bluff, and Rolling Fork, MS.

Gay Ann was beautiful both inside and outside. As an adult, she faithfully served both her church and community. As a member of First Baptist Church of Belzoni, she served as a Sunday School teacher and Ladies Bible Study leader for many years. She sang in the adult choir and played handbells in the handbell choir. Gay Ann also served her community of Belzoni in various capacities. She was a member of the Belzoni Garden Club, Belzoni Music Club, and the Belzoni Cotton Wives Club. Her greatest service was, however, her support of women who had lost their children to death at an early age. As a result of her own experience of losing her dear Jerrell at 14 years of age, she loved and counseled women traumatized by the same loss, leading them to dependency on their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to carry them through.

In her later years, Gay Ann relocated to Gulfport, MS, where she attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the adult handbell choir. She supported women at Trinity and, later, at Liberty Baptist Church in Flowood, MS, in various ways as a caring friend and support in times of need.

Gay Ann was preceded in death by her parents Lucille Nolan and Vincent “Snow” Mechatto, her late husband Henry Clay “Buck” Stubbs, sons Jerrell Bearden and David Bearden, a sister, Lady Dell Martin and brother-in-law Homer Martin. She is survived by her husband Dannie Abraham, sons Robby (Michelle) Bearden, Clay (Alisha) Stubbs, daughter-in-law Denise Bearden, stepsons Danny (Betsy)Abraham, Michael (Helen)Abraham, and Stephen Abraham (Venessa Rowan). She also leaves behind to cherish her memory a sister, Cissy (Gary)Pedigo and brothers Phil (Jo Ellen) Mechatto and Denny (Vickie) Mechatto, grandchildren Henry and Owen Stubbs, Frazier (Victoria) Abraham , Hallie (Les) McAuley, Reed (Laura ) Abraham, Bart (Jade) Abraham, and Spence (Linzy) Abraham, 13 great- grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of her Life will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 5199 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, MS . Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Greencrest Gardens in Belzoni, MS, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
