Gary Phillips Smith

Gary Phillips Smith, 79, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away September 30, 2015 at Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born on August 26, 1936 in Grenada, Mississippi. Throughout his youth he enjoyed playing sports, most especially baseball. He was a 1954 graduate of Starkville High school and went on to pursue his education at Mississippi State University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1959. 20 years of his professional life was spent with Bechtel Cooperation, where he also retired. He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was a very spiritual person and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Gary is survived by his sister Linda Karen Smith of Starkville, MS, and lifelong friend Joe Hans and wife, Clare of Ocean Springs MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kenneth Smith.
Family will be having a private service at a later date.
