Garlon Darrell Martin went to his heavenly home November 30, 2023. He passed peacefully with family at his side.
He was born August 25, 1941, in Carson, MS. In August 1962, he married the love of his life, Willie Dean Sumrall. He worked in insurance, construction and law enforcement over the years. He came to the coast in 1985 for work and made it his new home. He had a special place for law enforcement. Hiring on with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department in 1989, he spent 16 years in the Transport Division. He loved Southern Gospel music and traveled around to take in local "gospel sings" for years. His main hobby was fishing. He enjoyed being on the water and catching speckled trout. Anyone who has ever fished with him has a funny story of being on the water with him.
He was always an active member of a local church. Through the years, he sang, taught Sunday School and BTU. He loved the Lord and his people. He was a faithful member of Redemption Church in Diamondhead until his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Garlon and Lavern Martin, and his sister Brenda Davis. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dean Martin; his two children, Kenny Martin( Leah) and Anita Lawrence (Delton); two grandchildren, Wesley( Holley) and Nicole (Jamey); and five great-grandchildren, Lawson, Grayson, Hudson, Eloise, and Emersyn.
