Frieda Louise Snell, age 77 of McHenry, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Brashier and Virginia (Wendell) Moore; her brother, Gerald Ray Brashier; her sister, Marion Berendsen and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Snell.
Louise is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Roger Snell; her children, Tina (Chris) Penick, James (Theresa) Snell and Thomas (Tiffani) Snell; her grandchildren, Jessica Penick, Ashlee (Greg) Mann, Samantha Snell, Christina Snell, Christian Snell and Chandler Snell; great grandchildren, Krislynn Penick, Kolton Martinez, Landon Penick, Lauryn Mann, Everly Mann, Kayci Pyle, Kayden Pyle and Greyson Snell; her sisters, Carolyn Arrington and Brenda (Richard) Carpenter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Fisk, Missouri, Louise was raised in California, where she graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Roger, while he was stationed at El Toro, California, serving in the United States Marine Corps. The couple married the following year and shared 57 wonderful years together. As a proud military wife, Louise embraced the adventures of military life.
Louise began her career in California working in the electronics field. In 1971, after Roger left the Marine Corps, they moved to his home state of Alabama, where she continued her work in electronics. When Roger joined the United States Army in 1979, their military journey took them to Germany, where Louise worked at the Stars and Stripes Bookstore.
After three years overseas, the family was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, where Louise devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother. In 1985, they returned to Germany, and Louise began a distinguished civil service career, working in supply operations at a dental clinic. In 1988, the family moved to Fort Benning, Georgia, where she continued her civil service career in Human Resources.
Following Roger’s retirement from the Army in 1995, Louise continued her federal service. In 2002, she transferred to Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where she completed her career and retired in 2010 after many years of dedicated service. After retirement, Louise and Roger settled in Mississippi, where they enjoyed spending time together and making lasting memories with family and friends.
Louise found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved camping, fishing, reading, working puzzles, bowling, ceramics, and chalk painting. For many years, she and Roger shared a love of horses. She especially treasured family gatherings and backyard barbecues, where she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A devoted mother and mentor, Louise served as Tina’s Girl Scout leader and coached her softball team, creating memories and lessons that would last a lifetime. Her kindness, dedication to family, and unwavering support of those she loved will be remembered by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Louise’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Reception will follow the service from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm in the funeral home where family and friends are invited to continue fellowship. Louise will be laid to rest at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Biloxi National Cemetery.
