Frank Jackson Leiker, age 98, a resident of Long Beach, died on December 11, 2015. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a resident of Long Beach for 57 years. He was retired from the United States Navy, the Mississippi Department of Human Services, and the ministry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Ann Ledbetter Leiker, his son Jac Leiker, and his son-in-law Bobby Pierce. He is survived by his daughter Pam Gilbert (Daniel); two sons, Mark Leiker (Marilyn) and Scott Leiker; his grandsons Nick Leiker, Alex Pierce (Julie), and Ben Leiker; and his granddaughter Grace Leiker. Alex and Julie are expecting his first great grandson, Lennon, in April.
He will be remembered for his kindness and his love and commitment to his family. He served his country in the Navy for twenty years, including service during World War II and the Korean War. He received numerous honors for his military service, including a Presidential Unit Citation for his service on the U.S.S. Atlanta during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. He went on to work for the Harrison County Welfare Department until his retirement from state service. He also served as Pastor of Michael Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport in the 1960s, as well as First Baptist Church of Delisle in the 1970s.
