Floye M. Alexander

d. September 24, 2013

Floye Marie Ryan Alexander, age 75, of Long Beach, passed away on September 24, 2013, in Gulfport. Her parents were Harvel Floyd and Claudia Marie Fore Ryan. She was born in Howison, MS. In 1960, she and family moved to Long Beach where she has resided. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Haskel M. Alexander; infant son, Marty; grandson, Derek Johnson; son-in-law, Michael Smith. Survivors include daughters: Brenda (King) Batey and Angie Johnson, Long Beach; and Cindy Smith, Gautier. Siblings: Harvel Floyd ""Bud"" (Carol) Ryan and Chester Wayne ""Check"" Ryan, Gulfport; and sister, Charlotte Strahan, Long Beach. Grandchildren: Tiffany Batey (Gerry) Gordon, Gulfport; Trey (Rhiannon) Batey, LaGrande, OR; Alex (Amanda) Johnson, Memphis, TN; Claudia Smith, Gautier; Jacqueline Johnson, Long Beach; Nathan Smith, Gautier; Ryan Johnson, Long Beach; great-grandchildren: Derek Sanders, Long Beach, and Laurel Batey, LaGrande, OR; and numerous other family members.
Floye was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Long Beach. Although she did not work outside the home, her occupation was that one most noble: homemaker, mother and wife. Ask her girls and they will tell you that she was the best mother ever. She did all things: seamstress; master cook (everyone waited for her candy packages at Christmas); artist; gardener; plus, found time and energy to be room/team mother; Brownie/Girl Scout leader; and still maintained a spotless home. None of her daughters has been able to follow in her foot-steps of ""stay-at-home mom"" but recognize what a gift she gave to her beloved family.
Floye was a reserved lady who wanted no service but wanted her body donated to research. Her life will be celebrated later with a private family gathering. The family appreciates all prayers and sentiments, and extends a special thank you to the physicians, Memorial Hospital 3 C/D nurses, caregivers and staff, and St. Joseph's Hospice who cared for our mother.
Memorials to honor Floye may be made to the Long Beach Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 508, Long Beach, MS 39560; Feed My Sheep, 2615 19th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501; or one's preferred charity
