Floyd Joseph 'Drake' Girouard

Floyd Joseph Girouard, 92, passed away at his home on August 13th, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. He is known affectionately by the nicknames “Chapeau,” “Baboy,” and mainly “Drake". He was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi, specifically “the Point.” He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1952.

Drake proudly served in the United States Army for two years at Fort Lee, Virginia. Following his military service, he began a career with the Public Service Commission, retiring as Chief of the Southern District of Mississippi.

He was a lifelong member of the Fleur de Lis Club (French Club), where he served as President and spent 15 years on the Board of Directors. He was also a devoted member of the Elks Club #606 and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Drake was deeply involved in his community, belonging to St. Mary’s Parish for many years and participating in the Golden Age Club. He loved attending Cruising the Coast in his beloved 1979 black-and-gold El Camino, proudly representing his favorite football team, the New Orleans Saints.

Throughout his life, Drake enjoyed camping, bowling on a league, traveling with the Golden Age Club, and most of all, spending cherished time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Opal (Danise) Girouard; his children Keith, Layne (Debbie), Stacey, and Neil; grandchildren Alicia Girouard (Jake), Christina (Jason) Shorkley, Mark (Sloan) Vom Baur-Gonsoulin, Jami (Jay) Girouard, Josh Bourque, Kori Girouard, Jordan (Colton) Stewart, Taylor Girouard, and Jacob Girouard; great-grandchildren Koby Heise, Abbie Mayfield, Kaleb Dick, Joel Mayfield, Jaxton Hughes, Kloe Dick, Averie Hughes, Finley Shorkley, Adelyn Gonsoulin, Alex Bourque, Cohen Bourque, Blakelee Shorkley, Austin Stewart, Ella Gonsoulin, and Collins Stewart; great-great-grandchildren Adalynn Heise, Harley Heise, Prince Kirkland-Mayfield, Cole Dick, Caydence Mayfield, Charlotte Heise, Joel Mayfield III, and Maylee Mayfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Lydia (Romero) Girouard, his brother Henry "Sue" Girouard, his in-laws Oris and Mae Danise, and grandson Ryan Girouard.

He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial is Celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 177 1st. Street in Biloxi. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. A reception will be held for family and friends following the interment at The Fleur De Lis Society (French Club) on Howard Ave. Biloxi.
