Florence Crothers

Florence Louise Crothers, or Flo to those who knew her well, a resident of D'Iberville since 1972, passed away on May 9, 2014. She was 75 years old. Flo was born in 1939 in West Point, Mississippi, to George and Mildred Jackson, and she was the eldest of her two siblings, George Jackson, Jr. and Honel David Jackson. Flo spent her formative years in Center Line, Michigan, where she met Richard Lee Crothers, eventually accepting his marriage proposal after he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Flo and Richard were married for 55 years and lived in Edinburgh, Scotland; Okinawa, Japan; and Austin, Texas; among other places, before settling down in her beloved D'Iberville. Flo was a fiercely protective and loving mother and wife. She is loved deeply by her three children Scott Crothers and his wife Judy of Roswell, Georgia; Lee Anne Diaz and her husband Michael of Biloxi; and Chris Crothers and his wife Cindy of Jacksonville, Florida. Further, she was blessed with and adored her six grandchildren Mary Diaz (deceased), David Diaz, Stephen Diaz, Christopher Diaz, Collin Crothers and Abby Crothers.
In addition to being a homemaker, Flo volunteered at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital and was a bookkeeper for many years at Northside Builders Supply in D'Iberville and the U.S. Naval Retirement Home in Gulfport. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed playing golf, watching documentaries and learning about history. Flo will be dearly missed by her family and friends and remembered for her humor, candor, grit, devotion and compassion.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 13 from 11:00 AM until Noon at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME at the corner of Lemoyne Blvd and Washington Avenue. The funeral service will be held at Noon at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
