Evelyn June Verchinski, 84, died after a long illness on June 25, 2016 in Gulfport, MS, with her children and grandchildren at her side. She was born October 27, 1931 in Nellie, PA to Lawrence and Susan Hall. In 1952, she married Peter Verchinski at Keesler AFB. They had 4 children and were married for 25 years.
Evelyn worked as a nursing assistant at the Veterans Administration in Gulfport/Biloxi for almost 40 years. Her many friends from work helped support her and her family throughout her illness.
Evelyn loved shopping for bargains. She crafted and crocheted us many memories. She loved going out to eat, talking on the telephone and tending her rose garden. After years of living in the South, she learned to eat and came to love collard greens. We secretly believe the collards are what kept her alive this past year.
She is survived by her children Helen (Marc) Paquin, Michelle Miner, Peter Verchinski, Jr.; grandchildren Angela Waltbillig, Heather Sudduth; great grandchildren Abigail, Thomas, Sydney; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is also survived by siblings Mary Katherine Petko, Loretta Jordan and Charles Hall. She was predeceased by daughter Teresa Ann; brothers Tom, John and Donald Hall and sister Mildred Jordan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 11 AM at St. James Catholic Church, Gulfport, MS with a reception to follow in the Parish Center. There will be a private burial at Gulf Pines Cemetery, Long Beach, MS.
The family wishes to thank her many friends that helped over the last 2 years. They called, visited (some from long distances), and cooked bushels of collard greens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Evelyn's honor to the charity of your choice.
