Eva Susan Ross Foy, age 74 of Pass Christian, MS, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on April 29, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, education, and a profound love for her family and friends.
Susan was born on March 19, 1952 in Tifton, GA to the late Myrtle Weaver Ross and the late Charles Wilton Ross. She was the oldest sister of the "Ross Girls" and a leader to her younger sisters, Cindy and Joy. The bond between the sisters was a constant thread of love throughout her life. They didn't just grow up together, they remained each other's greatest confidants and best friends.
For 46 years, Susan walked hand in hand with her loving husband, Dale. Together they built a life centered on family and faith. Susan was the ultimate role model for her two daughters, Laura and Julie, teaching them through her own actions how to lead a life of purpose and compassion.
While she held many titles, her favorite was "Su Su", the name lovingly given to her by her five granddaughters and shared by those she encountered. She was steadfast in her love, commitment and support for them and was a guiding light that will live on in each of them throughout their lives.
Susan's professional life was defined by her 40 year tenure as a devoted educator. A staple of the Gulfport School District, she touched the lives of countless students through her work in the Gifted Program and her mastery of Language Arts. Whether teaching English Literature or Comprehensive Literacy, Susan wasn't just teaching students to speak, read and write, she was teaching them how to prepare for their futures and how to express themselves. Her classroom was always a place of growth and her impact on the community's youth will be felt for generations.
A woman of unwavering faith, Susan was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church in Long Beach, MS. She volunteered with Vacation Bible School and helped teach Sunday School lessons.
Susan has gone to join those who went before her: her parents, Wilton Ross and Myrtle Ross; her parents-in-law, Rev. B. Aaron and Ellen Elaine Foy, and brother-in-law, David Foy.
Her legacy of love will be carried on by her husband, Dale Foy; her daughters, Laura Foy and Julie Fortenberry (Luke); her granddaughters, Kylie, Brea, Lyla, Willa and Eva; her sisters, Cindy Chandler (Steve) and Joy Carmichael (Billy); her nieces, Christy Smith (Scott), Lizzy Sommers (Mike) and Emily Carson (Andrew) and her nephews, Patrick Foy (Yuko), Danny Foy (Olivia), Ross Carmichael (Brandi), Grant Carmichael (Katie), Drew Chandler (Alison), and Ben Foy (Brittany), along with 18 grand nieces and nephews and a community of friends and former students who were lucky to call her a friend.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olivia Hightower and her team, Dr. Clark Alsfeld and his team, and Brittney Cuevas.
