Eva Jewel (Kemp) McDaniel, age 92 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on January 25, 2016, in Gulfport. She was a member of North Long Beach Baptist Church in Long Beach. Jewel was a native of Winston County, MS, and lived in Cleveland, MS, graduating from high school in Lynn, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Leroy and Iola Mae (Liddell) Kemp; her husband, Marvin E. McDaniel; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin Edgar and Myrtle McDaniel; her sisters, Mae, Alma, Margret, and Carmon; her brothers, Iris, Edgar, Burtis, Victor, L.T., and Andrew; her daughter-in-law, Ann Christensen; her great grandson, Ezekiel Christensen; her sister-in-law, Betty Jo McCarty.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by her two sons, Howard Christensen, Sr., and Marvin McDaniel (Faye); her grandchildren, Bobbie Jo, Tabitha, Crystalina, Cynthia, Priscilla, Howard, Jr.; her great grandchildren, Tommy, J.T., Bradley, Chad, Brandon, Cameron, Cassie, Shelby, Brooklyn, and Emory Ann; her great-great grandchildren, Madison, Adalyn, Lila Ann, and Ashton.
She was employed with Kamien's Department Store, Morgan and Lindsey Department Store, Cleveland State Bank, Sterling Department Store, and Walmart. Before retiring from Walmart after fifteen years, she received awards for Best Employee of the Month and Cashier of the Month.
Mrs. McDaniel enjoyed gardening, yard work, quilt making, church singing, guitar playing, walking pets, traveling, visiting and helping others.
She was the greatest mother who loved the Lord, her children, and her great-great grandchildren. She was a beautiful woman that God gave to this world. She will not be forgotten and always on our mind and hearts. God bless you, Mother, and may the family walk in the light of the Lord as you did.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 29, 2016, from 4-5 pm at North Long Beach Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 5 pm in the church sanctuary.
