Joyce Switzer, 84, of Woolmarket, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospice.

Joyce graduated from Semmes High School. She worked at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, Mississippi, and at several banks before retiring. She was an outstanding employee and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A church floral arranger and prayer warrior, Joyce’s faith was an important part of her life. She was associated with New Life Church and Lutheran Church.

Joyce found joy in flowers, puzzles, ceramics, woodcrafts, crocheting, sewing, painting rooms, and decorating her home. She loved making homemade treats and caring for animals.

She is survived by her spouse of 15½ years, Ronald Switzer; her children, Joy Cash (Christopher) and Floyd Sherrell (Carol); and her former husband, Virgil Sherrel Sr. Her grandchildren include Elizabeth Bang (Terrell), Christopher Cash (Gypsy), Justin Sherrell (Michelle), Alex Sherrell (Cristy), Margaret Sherrell, Justin Sherrell, Gage Dale, and Anthony Sherrell. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: James, Melanie, Aven, Wyatt, Jenson, Ameleah, Michael, Bonnie, Landon, Logan, Kylie, Annistyn, Baily, Aksel, Nolan, and Kreed.

She was preceded in death by her son, Virgil Sherrell Jr.; and her sisters, Mary Mabel Swindel, Ruth Marler, Alice Davis, and Kay Davis.

Joyce had a generous heart and was always ready to help those less fortunate. She loved and adored her family, and showed kindness to every creature—from injured animals to turtles crossing the road. She gave to people in need and prayed for others until she knew they were doing better. Above all, she loved the Lord and spoke often about her faith.
