Esther Berumen

Esther Ida Berumen, age 95 of Biloxi, passed away on May 29, 2021.
She was a native of California and went to Catholic Grade and High Schools where she was recognized by the Nuns and received the "Book Worm Award" for reading the most books.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Candelaria and Inez Garcia; her brothers, Steven, Nino, Edward, Ben Raymond Candelaria; and her sisters, Mary Josephine Williams and Rachel Jenny McPherran.
She is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Henry R. Berumen; her brother, Richard John Candelaria (Harriet Clara) of San Jose, CA; her children, Henry Berumen, Jr. (Lorie) of Biloxi, MS, Jeffrey M. Berumen (Kelly) of Canton, GA, and Dottie Elaine Eravi of Fontana, CA; her grandchildren, Benjamin Taylor Berumen (Mallory) of Tyler, TX, Jonathan Henry Berumen of Little Rock AR, Holden Grey Berumen (Jennings), Marilee Elaine Saurenman of La Vern, CA, and William Gilmer of Virginia Beach, VA; and her great grandchildren, Amelia Elaine, Andrew, Allistair Sauernman of La Verne, CA, Lela Joyce, and Benjamin Taylor Berumen of Tyler, TX.
Esther was a housewife during her entire married life. Her hobbies included reading, baking cookies, and Major League Baseball. She was well known in town as "The Cookie Lady" for baking the best chocolate-chip and Ginger Snap cookies. The husbands would always say "Get the recipe before she goes!"

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with the visitation from 11:00 AM until the mass. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
