Ernest A. "Buddy" Jakins

Ernest A. ""Buddy"" Jakins Sr., 88 years old, of Ocean Springs, MS went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 17th, 2016. He died peacefully in his sleep.
Buddy was born in Ocean Springs where he lived his entire life. He married Imogene ""Jean"" Hitt Jakins on September 10, 1944. They loved, doted on, and cared for each other for over 71 years until the Lord called him home. She was his queen and he was her sweetheart and together they raised seven children. Buddy was a well-known and well respected auto mechanic for his entire career. He owned and operated his own garage for many years and finished his career at BF Goodrich. He was a great outdoorsman and his true passion was fishing. He loved fishing the waters along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and white trout hated to hear his outboard motor crank up. The pelicans, sea gulls, and catfish at the harbor eagerly awaited his return at the fish cleaning station.
Buddy was a humble man and lived a simple life, but his accomplishments were great and are best measured by the legacy he left behind. He was known as a hard worker and as a generous, giving man that never met a stranger. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good practical joke. He may have loved his grandbabies most of all, to them he was a hero.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Jean, his seven children, Ernest (Faye) Jakins Jr., Patricia (Hubert) Williams, Janelle (Charles) Schwark, George (Jane) Jakins, William (Kelly) Jakins, Helen (Toney Young) Jakins, and John (Diane) Jakins, his fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, his sister Jan (Larry) Byrd, and his beloved dog, ""Buster.""
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, corner of Lemoyne Blvd. and Washington Ave. from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please find a way to take a kid fishing.
