Emilie Marie Reynolds passed from this world to her permanent home in Heaven on August 5, 2014.
She was born in Vienna, Austria on October 6, 1927. She lived in Austria during the German occupation and worked for the Americans as a switchboard operator. Through this job, she met Reeves L. Reynolds and they were married on April 9, 1949, and she immigrated to America as a war bride, in 1951. She often joked about the culture shock she received when she moved from Vienna to a very small southern town without knowing much English. She taught herself English by reading magazines and listening to Americans talk and she spoke English very well with just a touch of an accent. She became a naturalized citizen on February 25, 1955. She was very proud to be an American citizen and never missed a chance to vote and participate in other civic events. She told everyone that America was her home. She and Reeves moved to Gulfport in 1955. Reeves died in 1988. She was employed by John Fayard Fast Freight for twenty-one years and retired in 2001.
She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, reaching the master degree and in this group she had served in all capacities. She also loved music, particularly German and Big Band, and enjoyed dancing and at one time in the sixties, she won several trophies. Emmy liked to have fun, but her Catholic faith was the most important element in her life. She was very devoted and active attendee at St. John Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and Young at Heart. At one time she had served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She was preceded by her husband, Reeves L. Reynolds, her mother and father, Friederich & Emilie Kylian and her sisters, Greta Kylian and Inga Reennetzer.
She is survived by a niece and grandniece in Austria. She is also survived by a host of friends who will miss her. Special thanks go to Roseanne Malone and Rose Bates who were her care takers for the last two years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 11am at St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. John Catholic Church.
