Ocean Springs, MS

Emil A. Pialet, Jr., affectionately known as Gus, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Born on October 18, 1945, in Harborcreek, Pennsylvania, Gus lived a life marked by devotion, friendship, and a profound love for the outdoors.

Gus was a charismatic and engaging man, quick to make friends and cherished by those who knew him throughout his life. He expressed his love most deeply through sharing his passions—particularly hunting, fishing, and cooking.

He was a devoted husband of 40 years to Joyce Marsh Pialet of Ocean Springs, a proud and loving father to his daughter Aimee Pialet, and a caring stepfather to Jay Simon. Gus’s family was a central part of his life, including his sister Mary Alice Pialet Nagosky, and his treasured grandchildren Christian Pialet, Matthew Simon, Alyssa Abend, and Alex Simon. He was also great-grandfather to Drew Simon and Lucas Abend,

Gus’s faith grew stronger over the last 15 years of his life, during which he was an active and committed member of Mosaic Church in Ocean Springs. His dedication to community and culture was manifest in his involvement with the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center and the Gulf Coast Fly Fisher’s Club. Gus also lent his time and energy to raising funds and running marathons to support the American Cancer Society’s Race for the Cure, demonstrating his compassionate spirit and willingness to give back.

He was educated at Harborcreek High School, class of 1963, and furthered his studies at Penn State Behrend, foundations that helped shape the man many admired for his strength, generosity, and resilience.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Emil A. Pialet, Sr. and Virginia Margaret Pialet (née Pogozalis), as well as his stepson, Michael Ernest Simon.

His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. Gus will be remembered as a wonderful husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and revered friend—a man whose life was rich with love, faith, and the joy of sharing simple, meaningful moments with those fortunate enough to be part of his journey. His legacy will continue to inspire through the lives of his family and community.
