Ocean Springs

Else Junger Underwood, a cherished matriarch and beloved fixture in her community, departed this life peacefully on December 13, 2024, in Ocean Springs, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on March 22, 1937, in the quaint locale of Morfeldon, Germany, Else carried with her the spirit of her homeland, characterized by a kindness that permeated every aspect of her existence.

Her endearing personality left an indelible mark upon all who were fortunate enough to know her, earning her the fond title of the funniest "Little Mama." Else's laughter and joy knew no bounds; she taught those around her the importance of kindness and the value of frugality. Her dedication to hard work was exemplified through her myriad of activities and passions, which included not only attending Mardi Gras parades and exhilarating Bingo nights but also her zest for swimming and the thrill of unearthing treasures at antique shops and yard sales. With a remarkable eye for finding hidden gems, she turned her talent into a means of supporting her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends, embodying a spirit of generosity that was both remarkable and inspiring.

Else was not just a lover of life, but a gifted vocalist, whose angelic voice could enchant a crowd. Her ability to yodel in her native German was a delightful surprise that would often entertain family gatherings, creating wholesome and affectionate memories that will forever echo in the hearts of her loved ones.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years Henry David Underwood; her children, Richard Underwood, Susan Underwood, Dianne Johnson, Rosemarie Underwood, David Underwood, and Pamela (Mike) Poore. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Mara Johnson, Bradely Poore, Adam Underwood, Christy Blackledge, Amanda Underwood; along with great-grandchildren Morgan Underwood, Payton Blackledge, Cameron Blackledge, and Hayden Herrera. Else's sister, Freide (Tim) Combs, and sister Anna Merola also mourn her passing.

Though the family grieves the loss of Else's beloved daughter, Judy Underwood, her spirit continues to illuminate their lives. Indeed, Else Underwood's passing marks the conclusion of a vibrant chapter, yet her teachings and spirit will endure within the hearts of those who loved her dearly. The world is dimmer without her radiance, yet her remarkable legacy will continue to inspire kindness, laughter, and an appreciation for hard work in generations to come.
