Elmer ""McCoy"" Peterson, 72, passed away peacefully at Ochsner's in New Orleans surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 16, 2016.
McCoy was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Dedeaux. He was a high school graduate of Hancock North Central where he played basketball and was a member of the first state championship basketball team of 1960-61, attended Pearl River Community College and retired as a Pipe Welder at NASA, Stennis Space Center. McCoy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on his farm. He loved tending to his farm animals, planting a garden each year, camping, taking trips to the stockyard, and cooking out while watching football under his pavilion. He will be dearly missed as a mentor and man of perseverance, great character, wisdom, and strong work ethic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer ""J.P."" and Luby Peterson, his sister, Beverly Ann Peterson Ladner, and his two children, Bridgett and Kirt Peterson.
He is survived by his loving soulmate of 20 years, Linda Fountain McKay, sister, Linda Pettis, brother, McKinley Kenny Peterson (Linda), sister, Charlotte Saucier (Earl), sister Wyndal Peterson, his children, sons, Greg Peterson (Nancy), Ricky Peterson, Rusty Peterson (Chaisty), Joshua Schmidt, Bradley McKay and daughter, Melissa Saucier (Dustin), 15 grandchildren, Amber, Shanea, Jeremy, Monique, Blake, McKenzie, Tyler, Bridget, Hannah, Landon, Brodie, Bricen, Mackenzie, and Marcie, and six great grandchildren, Katelynn, Baelyn, Brooklyn, Madalyn, Kendan, and Colbie.
Visitation will be on, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Rosary at 8:00 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Kiln-Delisle Rd., Pass Christian, MS.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dedeaux, with a visitation one hour prior.
