Elizabeth ""Liz"" Jeffrey Surginer, age 85, of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Surginer was born in Selma, AL, to Leon and Elizabeth Price Surginer, and grew up in Lower Peachtree, AL. Liz attended Montivallo College and graduate school and clinical studies at the University of Alabama. She was an ASCP certified Medical Technologist. She was the co-owner/operator of the Cooper-Surginer Laboratory located in Gulfport, MS in Dr. E.T. Riemann, Jr.'s office. Her family's history in the Methodist Church dates back to 1846 in Lower Peachtree where her great grandparents were founding members of the Methodist church there. Liz continued their legacy and was a charter member at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport, where she was very active. She was a pilgrim for the South MS Methodist Cursillo #14 and was a former volunteer at Memorial Hospice. She was a music lover and enjoyed dancing, travelling, and Sunday brunch. She was a pet lover and enjoyed picking flowers from the yard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Surginer and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Ward Surginer (Lori) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, John Marclamar Surginer (Anita) of Gulfport, Cherie Noel Surginer Randall (Rich) of Gulfport, Charles Craig Surginer (Gerri) of Woolmarket; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Johnny, and Jordan Surginer, all of Mobile, AL, Jessica Yassen of Orlando, FL, Jason Surginer of Gulfport, Sabrina Jenkins of Lafayette, LA, Sean Surginer of Biloxi, Stephanie Randall of Gulfport; 10 great grandchildren; and her faithful companion, Little Bit.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Entombment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39507.
