Diamondhead

Obituary

Elizabeth “Beth” Southerland Snyder, 86, of Diamondhead, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Beth was born on August 5, 1940, in Valdosta, Georgia, to W. D. (Donald) Southerland, Sr. and Louise Tucker Southerland. She began her nursing career in 1958 after attending Grady Memorial School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. Nursing was more than a career for Beth—it was a way for her to care for and make a difference in the lives of others. Over the years, she worked in a variety of nursing settings, including the operating room, emergency room, nursing homes, and private-duty nursing.

Beth had a creative and caring spirit and found happiness in many simple pleasures. She loved cats, painting, listening to books on Audible, shopping, and sewing Barbie doll clothes for local churches. She was a woman who found joy in using her talents to bring happiness to others, and those who knew her will remember her warmth, creativity, and generous heart.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, W. D. (Donald) Southerland, Sr. and Louise Tucker Southerland of Berlin, Georgia, and by her late husband, Ramon Snyder of Diamondhead, Mississippi.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts. She is survived by her children, Charles A. Easler (Barbara) of Diamondhead, Mississippi, and Janet E. Buenzow (Roger) of Diamondhead, Mississippi; her grandchildren, Jay Blevins (Devon) of Seattle, Washington, Elizabeth Blevins of Diamondhead, Mississippi, Amanda Harnish of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Joe Harnish (Annie) of Springfield, Vermont; and her brother, William Donald (Don) Southerland, Jr. of Thomasville, Georgia. Her Great-Grandchildren Teagan Blevins of Diamondhead, Mississippi; Elijah Blevins of Seattle, Washington; Baby Girl Blevins of Seattle, Washington, who she was so anxious to meet and is expected in November 2026; Alyssa Harnish of Greenwood, SC, and Naomi Harnish of Springfield, Vermont. Her Great-Great Grandchild Anthoni Harnish of Greenwood, SC.

Beth's life was filled with family, caring for others, creativity, and countless memories. While she will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the lives she touched will continue to keep her memory alive.

Her family is grateful for everyone who knew, loved, and cared for Beth throughout her life. She will be remembered with love and cherished always.

Those wishing to honor Beth's memory may make a donation to C112 at c112.org or to Southern Star #500 Masonic Lodge in Long Beach, Mississippi.
