Elizabeth Hahn Carter (Betty), age 89, entered glory surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, in Gulfport, MS after a lengthy illness. She fought the battle and kept her faith, and she is now with Jesus.

She was born on April 1st, 1937, in Pensacola, Florida to the late Charles and Malzie Hahn. She was raised in the Baptist church and gave her heart to Christ early in life. She later changed her membership to Methodist after marriage. She was a member of Burton Memorial United Methodist Church for over 40 years. When she could not attend church, she enjoyed watching her son, Scott, preach on YouTube. Betty had great faith and loved the Lord with all her heart.

Betty married her sweetheart, Ross Carter, on September 28th, 1957. They lived in Florida, Alabama and finally Mississippi where they raised their three children. She was an incredible mother. She worked hard, sacrificed and most of all loved unconditionally. She had the most beautiful smile that would light up a room. She leaves a void in our hearts that only the Holy Spirit can comfort.

Betty retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after a rewarding career as an administrative secretary for the Vice President of Engineering. She was smart, witty and creative and had tremendous work ethic and loyalty. She made lifelong friends during her time at Ingalls.

In addition to a rewarding career, Betty had a love of travel, reading and most importantly the Atlanta Braves. She attended an untold number of baseball games in Atlanta, including numerous play-off games and two World Series games. In addition, she loved traveling to watch her Braves on the road in New York (Yankees and Mets), Boston, Chicago, Denver, St. Louis, Houston and Washington DC. A trip was planned for Anaheim in April but was cancelled due to her illness. Betty lived life to the fullest. Even though the Braves brought her much joy, she was happiest surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was Gran, Grandma and Granny to her grandchildren, but all her great grandchildren called her “Great”. She was so loved by her family and will be in our hearts forever.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Ross Carter, her daughter, Diana Grant, four brothers, Bill, Steve, Mickey and Marty Hahn, and sister, Diana Hahn.

She is survived by her son, Reverend Scott Carter (Sue Ellen), daughter, Melody Griffith (Eric), grandchildren Mallory Pickering, Molly Whigham (Matt), Allison Horne (Hunter), Carter Griffith (Kaila), Olivia Carter and Christian Griffith. Greatgrandchildren, Brennan Pickering, Brooks Horne, Ross Horne, Isla Griffith, Samuel Whigham and Melody Ann Horne and one brother, Tony Hahn.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Rieman’s Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS 39503. Visitation will begin at 12:00 until service begins at 2:00.

Pallbearers are Tony Hahn, Carter Griffith, Christian Griffith, Brennan Pickering, Hunter Horne and Matt Whigham.
