Elinor Jones Conover

Elinor Denton Jones was born in Richmond, VA on January 3, 1929 to Louise Lacy and Otis Vernon Jones. She graduated from Newport News HS and worked several years before marrying Charles Conover and moving to Maryland, Tennessee and Delaware while raising their four children, Beverly, Andrew, Nancy and Robert. She worked, among other jobs, as Executive Secretary at ICI and Crown Zellerbach. She grew to love the Gulf Coast after moving here in 1978 with husband Charles (""Chuck""), son Robert and mother Louise. All her life, she enjoyed singing with all of her church choirs, especially Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed playing the piano and performed with the Sweet Adelines. She danced with the Swinging Starlets until her early 70's, and sang with the Gulf Coast Chorale.
She is preceded in death by mother Louise Harper and father Otis Jones, sister, Frances Jones, and daughter-in-law, Mary Lau (Andrew Conover). For the last years of her life she was surrounded and loved by her son Robert and daughter-in-law DeAnna, who made her home next door to them after the death of her husband Chuck. For the last year of her life, they were joined in loving care by daughter Beverly and friends Sylvia Barker and Angel Walker.
She is survived by her children, Beverly Conover Davis, Andrew Conover, Nancy Conover, Robert (DeAnna) Conover; grandchildren, Brooke Conover (Chris) Pollard with great granddaughter Kinsley; grandchildren, Sydney and Morgan Conover, and Jonathan Conover.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM Friday May 13 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 5005 Lawson Avenue Gulfport, with a visitation at noon and reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to: Alzheimers Association, www.alz.org, or the National Parkinson Foundation, www.parkinson.org.
