Eleanor Garippo Broussard, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2016 .A native of Chicago, IL and a resident of Biloxi, MS, she was affectionately known by everyone as ""Ma"".
She is preceded in death by her former husbands, Robert Gaspard of New Orleans, LA, and Lee ""Red"" Broussard of Crowley, LA; son, Anthony 'Tony"" Joseph Broussard of Crowley, LA; parents, Fiore and Elizabeth Garippo; siblings, Michael, Silvio, Frank, Angie and Jenni Garippo, all of Chicago, IL; and niece, Darlene ""Cookie"" Chuter-Berger of New Orleans, LA.
Survivors include daughter, Deborah Gaspard Viator and her boyfriend, Kenneth LeBlanc of New Iberia, LA, adopted sons, Gerald Broussard and Jerry Broussard both of Crowley, LA; and those she loved as her own children, Drena Holland, Monica and Paul Rider of Biloxi, MS; daughter-in-law, Sandra Broussard of Crowley; brothers, Normie, Bobby and Angelo Garippo of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Angelo (Tanya) Cuilla of Pasco, WA, Jeremy (Summer) Broussard of Crowley, LA, Brady (Nicole) Broussard of La Place, LA, Robin Viator and fianceÌ Shawn Staton of Youngsville, LA, Chad Viator and Shannon Viator, both of New Iberia, LA.; great-grandchildren, Nick Lindburg, Kymberlie, Stephania & Caliegh Ciulla and Nicole Dalen of Pasco, WA, Kaitlin, Jeremiah, Brady Jr., Nicholas, Kylee and Brady Broussard III., all of Laplace, LA.,. Jacob Staton of Youngsville, LA, Tommy, David and Tristan Broussard of New Iberia, LA.; great-great grandchildren, Ivy Dalen and Oliver Bicknell and Jayden Ciulla, all of Pasco, WA.
Ms. Broussard was born on July 19, 1927 and led a long and colorful life. She was raised on Taylor St. in Chicago and grew up working in her father's movie theatre. She lived in many places including New Orleans, Crowley and Lafayette, LA., where she was active in the American Legion. She owned, operated and managed many Bars. In 1978 she moved to Biloxi and settled on front beach, until Katrina relocated her to D'Ibeville. Eleanor worked for many years at ""The Broadwater Beach Hotel"" in Biloxi.
She loved Betty Boop, crime shows, The Wizard of Oz and watching other old movies. She knew all of the old stars, some she knew personally. She was a friend to all, an avid scrabble player, she loved puzzles, enjoyed playing cards and of course, watching the New Orleans Saints. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many, many close friends.
A private memorial will be held on Saturday, September 24, at 2:00 PM at her favorite place on the beach.
