Elaine DeMetz

Elaine Fitzpatrick DeMetz, age 85, of Pass Christian, passed away at her home
surrounded by family on September 12, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Irma Fitzpatrick and a brother, Jerry Fitzpatrick, and is survived by her husband of 64 years, Captain Donald J. DeMetz; her children Don (Sally) DeMetz of Birmingham, Alabama; Karen (Tom) Pritchard of Pass Christian; Patty DeMetz (Gary Smith) of Pass Christian; Peggy DeMetz (Mark Oehmke) of Omaha, Nebraska; Renee (Tom) Phares of Pass Christian; Danielle (Sam) Hopkins of
Gulfport; Charles (Marcia) DeMetz of Pass Christian; grandchildren, Mary Gray
DeMetz, Donald DeMetz, Edward DeMetz, Sarah (Chris) Dowdell, Charlie Pritchard,
Molly (Brian) Cole, Rene Travis, Ana Pope, Olivia Pope, Lauren (David) Harper,
Alexandra Phares, Thomas Phares, Sam Hopkins, Alexander Hopkins, Kate Hopkins,
Amelia DeMetz, Charlie DeMetz, and Mary Elaine DeMetz; six great grandchildren,
June Dowdell, Madeline Dowdell, Haiden Cole, Bode Cole, Lola May Cole, and
Elizabeth Harper; brothers Harvey (Susan) Fitzpatrick and Herman Fitzpatrick; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Elaine was born March 31, 1930, in New Orleans, and soon after marrying, became a
young mother to seven children in her beloved Pass Christian, where she would
remain her entire life. She devoted her life to her husband, children, and
grandchildren, and was a surrogate mother to many. She was her happiest on
holidays, special occasions, and impromptu get togethers, surrounded by family in
her kitchen or on the front porch. She loved her family, her many poodles, her
home, which was our gathering place, and her lifetime of Friday nights at the PCYC,
where she would sit at the corner table with life-long friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Allison Wall of Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, and
Dr. Pedro Ramirez of MD Anderson Cancer Center, and their staff. Their care,
together with Elaine's determined spirit, made possible the latter years of her life..
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 19, at Holy Family
Catholic Church, Pass Christian, with a prayer service to follow.
