Edward James Andrews, Jr.

Edward J. Andrews, Jr., was born on July 6, 1947, to Edward Sr. and Geraldine Ferrer Andrews in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in Houma, Louisiana, and graduated from Terrebonne High School, where he was a proud member of the band as a drummer.

He attended Nicholls State College and worked in the construction business alongside his father and Uncle Lester Andrews.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy Reserves before going on active duty in 1966. He and his father, Chief Andrews, made history as the first father–son team to serve together in Vietnam with MCB-74. After returning to the United States, they were assigned to the Gulfport Seabee Base.

Following his military service, Ed joined United Companies Mortgage, where he spent 23 years. Starting as a collector, he worked his way up to sales finance, overseeing more than 30 stores along the Gulf Coast.

In May 1978, he received his associate’s degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College.

In 1994, Ed transitioned into the casino industry, working at both Grand Casino and Island View Casino. He retired in June 2025 as an Executive Casino Host. Ed loved his job and the many guests he served, standing out for his incredible customer service, attention to detail, and steadfast commitment to going above and beyond for both his players and co-workers.

Ed was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He had a great sense of humor, a loving heart, and always put others first. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he will be fondly remembered for helping with the monthly men’s breakfast, often rising early to prepare and serve others.

Ed left this earth on Sunday, August 10, 2025, after a brief illness, at the age of 78. He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Betty Ivy Saunders Andrews; his son, Will Saunders; his daughter, Brandy A. Goldie; 5 grandchildren, Taylor & TC Natale, Ashton Branson, and Cobbey & Halley Wright; and 5 great-grandchildren, Arianna, Giovanni, Birdie, Tinzlee, and Theo. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Andrews Valentine, and her husband, Duane Shipp, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Geraldine Ferrer Andrews; his brother, John Andrews; his sister, Madeline Andrews; and his daughter, Michelle Andrews.

Ed will be missed immensely by everyone whose life he touched. We take comfort in knowing he is in heaven, where there is no pain or suffering, and that we will see him again one day.

The family extends heartfelt thanks for all the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time.
