Edith Stevenson Mandal, age 82, resident of Long Beach, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Mandal was a resident of the Coast most of her life. She worked for Coast Wholesale for many years before retiring, and was a former co-owner of Jus Kids clothing store in Long Beach. Mrs. Mandal was a member of Long Beach Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She was also a member of the Long Beach Historical Society, Gulfport Friends of the Library, and the Long Beach Friends of the Library. She volunteered at the CB Base for the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Marion Woodson Stevenson; first husband, James A. Klein, Jr., second husband, Robert """"Bob"""" A. Mandal, Sr.; sister, Miriam Lishen; and brother, Allen Stevenson.
She is survived by her daughter, Penny McClain of Long Beach and her husband Michael; sister, Sue McPherson of Long Beach; and brothers, Phil Stevenson of Plantation, FL, and Malcolm Stevenson, New Orleans, LA; seven stepchildren, R.A. Mandal, Jr., Carolyn Knight, Deborah Carlisle, Janice Roberts, Pamela Lewis, Beth Harriel, and Susan Bailey; grandchildren, Tyson McClain, Suzanne Johnson, Sharri Reed, Shelly Martin, and Mindy Whitten, and many stepgrandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and many step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, at 2:00 p.m., where friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
