Mrs. Edgel Willene McMickle Cox, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2016, in Perkinston.
Born October 5, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth (Barron) McMickle and attended Gulfport High School. She devoted her life to making a home for her husband and five children before returning to college in 1992 and dedicating the remainder of her life to her nursing career.
She was preceded in death by her parents, young brothers, Donnie and Dale Thweatt, and sister Wanda Gill.
Willie married Roy Cox, Jr. in 1969 and they celebrated their 46th anniversary on Oct.31. Together they have five children, Shelly (Troy) Diamond of Saucier, Micah (Tammy) Cox of Lucedale, Karri (Randy) Cuevas of Perkinston, Ellie (Van) Wells of Pascagoula, and Angie (Jason) Martin of Hooper, UT. She leaves to cherish her memory 11 grandchildren, Alyssa, Colton, and Caitlyn Diamond, Ruben, Rustin, and Cason Cox, Duncan Cuevas, Eli and Analeigh Wells, and Brandon and Oaklee Martin. She is also survived by her step-sister Rosemary (Jimmy) Duncan of Jacksonville, FL as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mama will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and those whose lives she touched. We were blessed to have her and will remember her always.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at 2pm at Little Creek Baptist Church, located at the corner of East Wire Road and Highway 15 in Perkinston. Family may visit beginning at 12'Noon and friends may visit from 1pm until the service. Interment will follow at O'Neal - Cox Cemetery in Perkinston.
