Dustin Wade Tasker, age 32, born in Gulfport, MS passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Gulfport. He was residing in Binghamton, NY, and previously lived in New York City for almost a decade.
He is survived by his mother, Donna Ladner Tasker of Gulfport; his sister, Danielle Ruth Callegan; brother-in-law, Steven of Metairie, LA; and beloved niece, Gabrielle ""Molly"", whom he loved to tickle, give monkey back rides, build pillow forts with, and generally play every imaginary game she dreamt up; the love of his life, Kim Sitafalwalla of Port Washington, NY; his uncle Bert Ladner of Gulfport; aunts, Karen Demoran of Waveland, and Alise Putnam (Mark) of Pensacola, FL; and numerous cousins and their children, who he adored.
Dustin was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Marius Ladner of Gulfport; two uncles who he looked up to like father-figures, Clyde A. Ladner and Peter Lestelle of Cleremont Harbor, and a mentor who taught Dustin more about life and kindness than he did the saxophone, John Simic of Gulfport.
Dustin graduated from St. Stanislaus, earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy from American University in Washington, DC, studied abroad in Croatia, and was studying for his PhD in Philosophy at SUNY Binghamton University in New York. He worked as a HEAT Supervisor for five years for the New York Hotel Trades Council (a job which he was most passionate about), and most recently as a Teaching Assistant at Binghamton University.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, where friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you perform a planned act of kindness for someone less fortunate than yourself to honor Dustin's memory as he spent much of his adult life advocating for the rights of and giving a voice to those less fortunate than himself.
