Dr. Durwood Lee Broughton, age 61, of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013.
Bro. Dee was born in Rocky Mount, NC to William Earl and Dorothy Savage Broughton. He and his wife, Ann, served as missionaries in Africa before starting their family. For many years, he pastored churches across the South and was a current chaplain for Good News Jail and Prison Ministry at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. He was loved for and will be remembered for his jolly personality. He ministered to all and touched the lives of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Savage.
Bro. Dee is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Ann Broughton of Gulfport; his daughters, Hannah Ernst (Matthew) of Gulfport, and Leah Huckabee (Gordon) of Gulfport; his mother, Dorothy Broughton of Rocky Mount, NC; his sister, Kay Bennett of Murrells Inlet, SC and 6 nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Bel-Aire Baptist Church, Gulfport, from 4:00-7:00pm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013, in the church sanctuary at 10:00am.
Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens in Long Beach.
