Dr. Mary Elizabeth Stevens, age 96, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on May 15, 2019.
Mary was born in Miami, FL. She received her BS degree from Florida State and her masters and doctorate degrees in education at the University of Miami. She worked as a teacher, college professor, librarian, and a SAG Actress.
Dr. Stevens was very active in the First United Methodist Choir, Gulf Coast Symphony, New Comers Club, morning coffee at the Edgewater McDonalds, and the exercise group at the Donald Snyder Community Center. She was a member of DNC, Delta Kappa Gamma, Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport.
Dr. Stevens was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Woodson A. Stevens, Jr.; her father, Gordon Highsmith; her mother, Lottie McEachern Highsmith; and her brother, William Highsmith.
Mary is survived by her children, E.A. and M.K. Stevens.
Her favorite quote by which she lived, "People will forget what you've said, people will forget what you did, but, they will never forget the way you made them feel".
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, Gulfport, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made in Mary's name to your local animal shelter or the First United Methodist Choir, Gulfport, MS.
