CWO Douglas M. Carroll, U.S.C.G., Retired, age 71, of Biloxi, Crossed the Bar on June 19, 2013.
Mr. Carroll served over 29 years in the Coast Guard and retired in 1996 with the rank CWO4. He had many responsibilities and served many duty stations in the Coast Guard over his career and was recognized in 1974 as the Coast Guardsman of the Year in the 14th U.S.C.G. District, Honolulu. He was a very talented machinist and was the Commanding Officer that oversaw the building of the 47 ft. Motor Life Boat (MLB) in New Orleans that is used today in rescue operations. He lived his life by the Golden Rule and will be remembered as a truly honorable man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruby Carroll.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie Carroll of Biloxi; son, Kevin Carroll of Bothell, WA; brother, Leonard Carroll of Royce City, TX; sisters, Marylynn Taylor of Brownwood, TX, and Betty Moesteller of Alvarado, TX; his ""mother-in-love,"" Mary Arthur of Springdale, AR; and his grandchildren.
Graveside ceremonies will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Biloxi National Cemetery, at 9:00 a.m.
