Dorothy McLemore Graves

November 4, 1922 — April 11, 2013

Dorothy ""Dot"" Graves, 90, peacefully passed away in her sleep on April 11, 2013, at home in Gulfport. Dot was born in Brooklyn, MS on November 4, 1922, and spent her childhood in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area with her two younger siblings and where she met and married J. B. ""Brown"" Graves, her beloved husband of forty three years until his death in 1990.
Dot was a wonderful, caring wife and mother, often staying up nights sewing for the children, helping with school, and helping Brown with the design, construction, and decoration of homes he was constructing in Gulfport, particularly the Bayou View area. She was an ardent follower of political campaigns and served on Governor William Waller's staff. She was a keen player of dominoes, Scrabble, cards and other games, enjoying many happy hours playing with her friends and relatives over the many years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Gertrude McLemore, both her younger sisters, Lois Moore and Doris Hands, and a great granddaughter, Jessica Gant. She is survived by her children, Dottie Beard, Debbie Baxter, Diane Graves, and Danny Graves, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 2:30 p.m.
