Dorothy Lewis "Dot" Gilbert

Dorothy ""Dot"" Gilbert, 89, went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, September 14, 2014. She was a native of Pineville, Smith County, Mississippi, and lived in Gulfport for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James O Gilbert; her parents, Isaac Joseph and Eula Shirley Lewis; sisters, Irene Lancaster, Betty Lancaster and Elizabeth Wiggins; and a brother, Frederick J. Lewis.
She is survived by a son, James A. Gilbert and his wife Tina; a sister, Margie Simmons; and a brother, Bob Lewis and his wife Bonnie.
She was employed by Brandon Insurance and Stewart Sneed Hewes Agencies for many years before she retired. She loved life as a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years and was quite active before her illness in many church functions including Sunday School, WMU, youth groups and Training Union. Dot had a passion for politics and was an avid volunteer at her local polling place.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport. A service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their excellent care during her illness. A special thank you to Gloria Golden, Susan Laurie, Candice Ladnier, Jonell Dowdy and Ana Molina for their round the clock love and care given to Ms. ""Dot.""
