Doris Hickman Williams, age 91, died peacefully at home on Monday, April 29, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born on Friday, January, 13,1922, at her family home in Gulfport, Mississippi, the second of four children born to Judson and Meta Peverie Hickman.
She was a lifelong resident of Gulfport, and graduated from Gulfport High School in the Class of 1940. She married Howard R. Williams on March, 15, 1941, and they were blessed with three children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, wife and mother, she was an accomplished seamstress, who enjoyed sewing, knitting and crochet. She also enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, and quilting. She was a wonderful cook, and loved cooking for her family.
She was a humble and faithful servant in worshipping her Lord at St Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport. As a founding member of the Church, she often devoted her time and talents to her church family as well. She proudly served on the board of directors, sewed church vestments, made meals for those in need, and always enjoyed the Ladies Guild. She was a longstanding member of the Northwood Hills Garden Club. She also enjoyed her outings with ""the girls"" and was a very proud grandmother, and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Howard R.Williams, two brothers Howard Hickman and Elward Hickman, a half-brother, Horace Hickman, and a sister Myra Hickman Button. She leaves behind her three children, daughters Barbara (Gary) Robinson, Diane (John) Wanker, and son Ron Williams, a nephew Gary (Judy) Button, her grandchildren Terry (Virginia) Robinson Tracey Robinson (Steve) Novak, Randy Favre, Kevin (Ashlea) Favre, Emily Favre (Kyle) Thomas, and Paul Williams; and by her great-grandchildren Katherine, Ben, Emily and William Robinson, Steven, Alex, and Matthew Novak, Sara, Bradley, Ben, and Jared Thomas, Cooper and Clair Favre, and Mason Williams.
The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers, Vanessa Brantley and Tempie Tyler, the wonderful staff at The Hospice of Light, and Sister Therese O'Conner and Father George Murphy of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at St Joseph's Catholic Church at 10:00am followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to St Joseph Catholic Church, 12290 Depew Road Gulfport, Mississippi 39503.
